Soak up the medieval charm of York at Christmas. Scents of spiced mulled wine and delicious food fill the air, making a York Christmas Market the place to be this season. Don’t miss York’s popular festive market, its back with more Christmassy fun than ever before…

Take a leisurely stroll along St Nicholas Fair and soak up the festive atmosphere, as you discover fine Yorkshire produce from crafters and makers showcased at the Made in Yorkshire Yuletide Village. If you’re looking for more traditional Christmas gifts, don’t forget to wander amongst the many alpine chalets on Parliament Street.

On Parliament Street in the heart of the city lies Christmas Market in York: a classic German-style market selling Christmassy trinkets and delicious treats. And once you’ve reached the top of the street, there are more stalls to come. In fact, anywhere you trek in York city centre on a weekend in December, you’re never far from Christmas cheer.

Head down to Kings Square and experience all the fun of the fair. Don’t miss the opportunity to slide down a good old fashioned Helter Skelter.

What sets this market apart is the level of sweetness of the gifts on offer. You can do some serious gift shopping here – no tat allowed. Local breweries, sweet-makers and crafty types fill the stalls with everything from scented candles and quirky puppets to toffee vodka, giant, gooey brownies and rich, flavored fudge.

Admittedly, the best time to visit Christmas market in York is early in the morning, before the lunchtime rush hits. York’s not a huge city and it’s a small high street, so can get very crowded quickly. That way, you’ll be able to get the most out of each stall. Still well worth a visit, even if it does mean downing your glühwein at 10am…
