Vienna, Austria

The market in front of Schönbrunn Palace is the first of Vienna’s Christmas markets to open. Pair it with a morning in the palace. From 6 Nov.

Golegã, Portugal

Golegã’s horse fair around St Martin’s Day is one of Portugal’s great autumn traditions, with roasted chestnuts and new wine. 6–15 Nov.
